This was number three on my top ten list of 2016. Do not listen to another word about this easy to spoil film and just go and watch it. Her strong, tense performance goes against everything you want her character to do, and it’s glorious.
Winstead refuses at any point to sit back and act out the victim that this role so easily could have asked of her. "Crazy is building your ark after the flood has already come." – Howard Testament to that is his “Playtest,” episode of series three of newly Netflix invested ‘Black Mirror’.įilms with an intense, horror-thriller setting can be guilty of wanting to sit and stare you in the face the whole way through constantly poking you and muttering, “what’d you think of that bit then?” However Trachtenberg wants you to watch this ‘Cloverfield’ sequel (completely different setting) wholly alone in a dark room, with the floor of the room occasionally collapsing under you leaving you in a state of absolute paranoia against your own understanding. You can’t always convince them that safety is in their best interest." – Howardĭan Trachtenberg has a directorial slam dunk, giving Goodman a new lease of life on screen and putting himself on the ‘ones to watch’ radar for his movies to come. Cue the “is he/isn’t he” a psychopath meanderings. Mary Elizabeth Winstead (apparently is actually a separate person to Brie Larson) wakes up in an underground bunker with Goodman explaining an apocalyptic horror has occurred and they can’t leave the house. John Goodman has the performance of his life, or at least since the Borrowers anyway. So, I can't wait for us to all be talking about it! It's one that you'll want to have in that communal way, and I know that you will be leaving the theater really wanting to talk about it, and probably hop on the boards, and discuss it even more. I think this is a very special movie-going experience.
I'm so excited that you are all going to get a chance to finally see the movie. The idea that I've made something that all you guys are paying so close attention to and caring about enough to want to do this is really overwhelming and awesome.
